Advance notice of the 2nd Cotswold ‘Fireside’ Backgammon and Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament

The 2nd Cotswold ‘Fireside’ Tournament will be held on the weekend of Friday 30th January to Sunday 1st February 2004.
I am pleased to announce that our hosts will again be the Crown Inn Hotel, Blockley, Moreton-in-Marsh.
Accommodation at the Crown is available for two nights at a special backgammon rate of £110 per person, dinner bed and breakfast.
Single occupancy costs £140 for two nights. Those who attended the inaugural tournament may note that this represents a reduction on the 2003 tariff. It is also a substantial discount on the Crown’s standard room rate. Rooms at the Crown can be reserved by telephoning the hotel on 01386 700245 and quoting ‘backgammon’. The hotel is expected to fill in advance so you are advised to book early. A number of superior rooms are available on a first come, first served basis. A £20 deposit will reserve your room.
Blockley is situated 3 miles west of the Cotswold market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, which can be reached in about an hour’s drive from London or by direct trains from Paddington.
Blockley is a delightful, secluded honey-stoned village and the Crown lies at its heart.
The hotel has fine award-winning food and comfortable bars warmed by open log fires.
Rooms are full of character, and some have four-poster beds and extra sitting-rooms, ideal for those late chouettes!
The Tournament entry fee is £100 per player (all returned in prizes) and the programme is as follows:
- Friday 4.30pm onwards: Quarter-entries (costing £25), eighth-entries (£12.50) and jackpots by demand.
- Saturday 10.30am: Main flight draw. Matches will comprise best-of-three series, match length to be determined by number of entries. The Cotswold ‘Fireside’ Champion will receive 45% of the prize fund and the runner-up 25%.
- Saturday 2.30pm: 11-point progressive consolation flight draw The consolation winner will receive 20% of the prize fund and the runner-up 10%
- Saturday evening: £10 buy-in unlimited re-buy pot-limit Texas Hold’em tournament. Winner 70% of stakes, runner-up 20%, third 10%.
- Sunday: Last Chance tournament with separate pool.
