The handicapping system explained

Column by column:

PLAYER: A list of all players who have competed in contributing Bristol competitions during the current five year period (2020-2024).
HANDICAP: Based wherever possible on the Ranking Score in order to assign appropriate handicaps for our Handicap Knock-outs. Current dividing lines are: 0 handicap (2.500 and over); 1 (2.000 to 2.499); 2 (1.250 to 1.999); 3 (below 1.250). Where there is insufficient data, or the Director has evidence of gross anomalies in the calculated handicap, the Director will assign a more appropriate handicap at his own discretion.
"Bristol Ranking": All players in the table, ranked in order of Ranking Score, who have played in at least 10 matches in contributing events. This is not to be taken too seriously, but may be of interest to some!
Ranking score: Equal to the TOTAL Played divided by the TOTAL Points. Where there are fewer than 100 matches included in the calculation, additional "matches" are included to weigh against exceptional sequences of results, in order to counterbalance the effect of small samples of data distorting a player's record.
TOTAL: Played and Points: Derived from the five annual totals in the columns to the right. For a breakdown of how the annual totals are arrived at, look at the individual years as listed below. Only enough recent years are included to ensure that a sample of 100 matches are used in the calculation. Surplus years can be seen greyed out to the right hand side of the table, while those years which will become "redundant" after a player completes no more than five more matches are shown in pale blue.
