Bristol Inter-League Cup rules and formats
The 2001 competition
INTRODUCTION and DRAW CRITERIA
There are 18 (eighteen entrants) -- 6 from the Premier league, and 12 from the Conference. £5 will be levied from each contestant, to pay for the finalists' prizes.
They were drawn into four groups, two of five players, two of four.
Eight players were seeded (the 6 from the Premier plus the two highest placed entrants in the Conference). Two seeded players were drawn into each group, then the remainder of the entry was drawn to fill the remaining group slots.
THE GROUP PHASE
Each player will play every other in his/her group in an 11-point match.
The final positions in each group will be based upon the following criteria:
(1) number of matches won; (2) points difference, i.e. all points scored by a player in his/her group matches minus all points conceded by that player in those matches (N.B: All winning scores are truncated to 11 points); (3) results of meetings of players who cannot be separated by criteria (1) and (2); (4) a short play-off, the format of which will be decided by the competition director.
Players should not let matches in this competition hinder the progress of league matches.
Players should aim to finish their group matches by the end of October.
THE KNOCK-OUT PHASE
The winners of the four groups will be drawn into a knock-out phase, which will consist of two 11-point semi-finals, and an 11-point final.
The competition winner will hold the Inter-League Cup until the conclusion of the following year's competition. The two finalists will receive permanent engraved mementoes plus -- if there is any left! -- small cash prizes.
