Playboy London Million

Bristol Qualifiers

Here in Bristol, it was decided that -- because the backgammon calendar is already quite crowded -- existing events would be used as a vehicle for providing Playboy Million qualifying opportunities.
The events used were:

Wed Apr 11Monthly

Thu May 10Monthly

At each of the above events there was a side pool, completely separate from the event entry fees, which were an optional extra for those players who wish to use the event as a Playboy Million pre-qualifier.
Side pool participation was £12.50. As long as there were at least four players in the side pool at each event, there was at least a half seat in the regional qualifier to be won. "Surplus" pool money was returned as cash prizes as per the table below, but seats or half seats, once won, are non refundable.

Furthest progression decided, as defined in the standard Bristol rules for "furthest progression" side pools.
Where more than one seat was on offer, order of pool payment would decide who contested which seat or half seat. For example, if there were 12 pool entrants, then the first 8 to pay would contest the full seat, while the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th to pay would be vying for the half seat.

The object of the exercise was to fill eight seats (each valued at £100) at a Bristol and the West regional qualifier, the date of which has yet to be decided.
Winners of half seats would be required to play off to win full seats.
In the event that there might be a shortfall in the regional qualifier, additional "jackpots" would be run to fill the vacancies.
Players were also at liberty to buy a seat at the regional qualifier for £100.

In summary......
(1) Enter a Bristol pre-qualifier (see dates above) and pay £12.50. If you progress the furthest of 8 or more pool entrants (for a full seat worth £100), go to (3). If you progress furthest of 4 or more pool entrants (for a half seat worth £50), go to (2)
(2) Play off with another "half seat" winner, and go to (3) if you win
(3) Contest the Bristol and West regional qualifier with 7 other players (date to be decided). If you win, you go to (4)
(4) You have won a seat (value £800) at the national qualifier (venue to be decided) on October 27th. If you win this you go to (5)
(5) You have a seat at the Playboy London Million between November 25th and 29th, the value of which is $10,000 (equivalent to £6,400)
